16th Annual Martin Luther King Freedom Breakfast – This annual event will take place on Friday, January 16, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1040 P Street, from 7:30 am to 8:30 am (doors open at 7:00 am). The keynote speaker will be The Honorable Judge John Gerrard, Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court. Our community traditionally supports this event by filling a table of 10, and our congregations and the Federation will be listed on the program. Return your reservation to the Temple office by the deadline of Friday, November 28. Checks are payable to MLK Freedom Breakfast. Buy two tickets at $20 each and be listed as a sponsor. Non-sponsor individual tickets are $10.
Mark your calendar for Sunday, November 30, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, and join us for a discussion of You Shall be Holy: A Code of Jewish Ethics by Rabbi Joseph Telushkin. The discussion will be facilitated by Sarah Kelen in recognition of Jewish Book Month.
An educational presentation by Dr. Michelle Petersen and Dr. Les Spry, Nebraska Medical Association Health Care Reform Task Force, Tuesday, December 9, 2008 7:30 PM-8:30 PM, South Street Temple Social Hall The Temple Social Action Committee is focusing our efforts this year on health care reform. We will hear about the health care reform legislation by the Nebraska Medical Association that will be introduced in the Unicameral in January, 2009. Join us to learn more about this important issue for our state.
Despite the weather, it's time to begin thinking about Jewish Summer Camp next summer. Your child will be bringing information home - watch for it! Copies will also be available from the Temple office.
